We support slum dwellers in Delhi, India to tackle the cycle of poverty

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm going out to New Delhi, India with Amanda and three other friends to volunteer in a slum called Zakhira. It is under a dual carriageway and next to a railway line and is home to about 2,000 families. Many live in just one tiny room. Asha works to improve their living conditions, provide healthcare services, and supports the kids through school. Its higher education programme helps those with most potential apply to Delhi University. Asha works with slum communities like this on a truly long term basis and aims to lift families out of poverty in a sustainable way. The transformational effect of the work it's done over the last 30 years is truly inspiring. We're going to work with the students, mentoring them as they prepare for the world of work, and with the children, doing various activities, helping them with their English and generally spending time with them and encouraging them as they navigate life with challenges it's for us hard to comprehend.

Asha is a wonderful charity that has an extraordinary long term commitment to helping the poorest people in their society, and giving them hope of a better future. They make a real difference.
