Story

"Rise like the sun, stand like the mountain, charge like the lion, die knowing you're an Ironman"

On Sunday 19th July 2015 I will be testing both my physical & mental abilities to their limits when I compete in the prestigious 'IRONMAN UK' triathlon... a 2.4 mile open-water swim, a 112 mile bike ride and, last but not least, a marathon!

As part of this ambitious challenge, I have pledged to help those less fortunate than myself by raising funds for the Lake District Calvert Trust where I am currently working as an instructor.

A charity close to my heart, our residential outdoor centre in Keswick, Cumbria helps to change the lives of people with even the most profound physical, sensory and learning disabilities.

Alongside their friends and families, they are proof that adventurous activities such as sailing, canoeing, climbing, abseiling, horse riding, ghyll scrambling and hand-cycling can be achieved by anyone, regardless of disability.

The charity must raise in excess of £250,000 a year to continue this vital work which is why sponsored events like this are key to fundraising at the Trust.

If you could help by making a donation, I would be very, very grateful. Thank you in anticipation of your support and encouragement. I will let you know how both the event and my fundraising unfold.

About the charity

The Lake District Calvert Trust provides residential outdoor activity courses for people of all ages with physical, sensory, learning, behavioural and/or mental disabilities. Its mission is to challenge disability through outdoor adventure. Pioneering equipment adaptations, and intensive, instructor-led activity programmes (that include climbing, abseiling, canoeing, sailing, horse/trap driving, archery, orienteering and paragliding), provide an environment whose aims are to teach, challenge, motivate, engender confidence in ability, promote independence, and foster integration. All instructors are highly trained and specialist qualified, and the facilities are specially adapted and fully accessible to all. The Lake District Calvert Trust provides a unique and life-changing experience for those with disabilities, who are encouraged to believe that it’s what you CAN do that counts.
