We enable people with disabilities to achieve their full potential

Story

I am a Trustee of The Lake District Calvert Trust, and have been involved with the charity for many years. Year on year they continue to astound me, as they help the many individuals with disabilities that enjoy the specialist facilities. This continues to be the reason underlying reason why I hole heartedly continue to support them.

A registered charity, for over 40 years, the Lake District Calvert Trust has been welcoming guests with disabilities to their dedicated centre, so that their guests can enjoy the benefits of outdoor activities in a safe and accessible, yet challenging environment.

Set in a stunning location overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake, the main centre is fully accessible throughout, including their own stables and boathouse at separate nearby locations. They endeavour to run as many activities as possible out in the wider Lake District so that many residents also get to explore one of the most beautiful parts of the UK.

About the charity

The Lake District Calvert Trust provides residential outdoor activity courses for people of all ages with physical, sensory, learning, behavioural and/or mental disabilities. Its mission is to challenge disability through outdoor adventure. Pioneering equipment adaptations, and intensive, instructor-led activity programmes (that include climbing, abseiling, canoeing, sailing, horse/trap driving, archery, orienteering and paragliding), provide an environment whose aims are to teach, challenge, motivate, engender confidence in ability, promote independence, and foster integration. All instructors are highly trained and specialist qualified, and the facilities are specially adapted and fully accessible to all. The Lake District Calvert Trust provides a unique and life-changing experience for those with disabilities, who are encouraged to believe that it’s what you CAN do that counts.
