We are trying to raise awareness and money for Mesothelioma UK, a charity set up to help and support patients suffering from this dreadful uncurable disease and their carers. It is known with total certainty that mesothelioma is caused by contact with asbestos. It is a horrible disease that can lie dormant for many years but once it takes hold it is merciless and rapid in its effects with few victims living longer than a few months beyond their first diagnosis.

Sandy worked with asbestos in the early 1960s and was, until the diagnosis in October 2008, a very fit and healthy, young looking, 73 year old. For the last six months of his life he was unable to walk more than a few steps and eventually he was unable to take care of himself. He remained cheerful and positive to the end.

I am 72 years old and on October 20th I made a tandem skydive from 12,000 feet after taking off from Langar airfield in Leicester. One of my sons, Nic, was supposeed to be jumping at the same time but was unable to do so. He will still be jumping at the earliest opportunity as part of my fund raising effort.
