Story

The week before Christmas 2016 I was diagnosed with cancer.  It turned out the cancer had been silently growing within in me for 2-3 years and by the time I received my diagnosis I was at stage 4 and terminal.  It was truly a life changing time for both myself, family and friends, however it also provided an opportunity to help others and focus on achieving a legacy that I would feel proud of.  We (my husband/Giles and children Rory/ Gemma) are determined to fill the next few months with memorable events that benefit the community we are part of.

My original diagnosis was for between 6-18months and therefore on the day that I complete this walk I will have already used 5 months of my journey time.  10 miles may not seem much to you, but after 5 rounds of chemo it feels likes a marathon to me.  However I am determined to help raise as much money as possible to build the new Cancer Unit at my local NHS Hospital here in Bath.  Having had chemotherapy, life saving surgery and several procedures since the diagnosis I would like to pay back some of the kindness that the staff and community have shown me.  The new Cancer Unit at the RUH Bath, will be built in 2018/2019 and though I may not be here to see it, I do know that everyone who passes through those doors.  Patients, families and staff will benefit immensely from the wonderfully designed unit and the medical enhancements that will be incorporated in the building.

I have several family, friends and colleagues who will be joining me on the walk and they may approach you to sponsor them/me.  Please note that all donations go directly to the charity "The Forever Friends of Bath RUH Hospital"

Therefore if you would like to help raise my goal of £25,000 please feel free to sponsor me.  Every penny counts and between us we can help change the lives of others.

Update - August 2017

It is now almost 3 months since I completed the Walk of Life and I have reached 81% of my target due to the very generous donations from family, friends and total strangers. A huge thank you to all those that have donated and I am still determined to reach my original goal of £25,000 before my journey ends.  The last 3 months have been busy with numerous rounds of chemotherapy, attending fund raising events and helping contribute to a video about the new Cancer Centre at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.  I have attached a link so that you can see where and how your generous donations are going to be spent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHnZSJ8nzhE

Thank you for taking time to read my story and know that your donation does make a difference and helps to buy a brick for the new unit.
