We fund research into type 1 diabetes to find a cure for type 1 diabetes

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Over 2 years ago I fell ill during a skiing holiday, I lost weight, was drinking a lot of fluids, felt drained and couldn't stop going to the loo, I was nicknamed Mrs Stickymouth as most of the time my mouth was so dry I couldn't speak.  I saw the doctor  when I came home and found out it was Type 1 Diabetes, which is an auto immune illness and it's with me for life.

Having Type 1 means your pancreas stops producing insulin and you have no control over the levels of glucose in your bloodstream.   It's necessary to take insulin around 5 times a day and to test your blood at least 5 times a day. Day to day life is fine with good control, although hypoglycemia episodes can occur when levels drop suddenly but they can be treated with glucose.  There are potential long-term complications if good glucose control isn't maintained, such as blindness, amputations, kidney failure, strokes etc.

I am lucky to get it at my ripe old age, but many are not so lucky, they will get it as children and will live with it throughout their teens and for the rest of their lives.  Some rebel and ignore it with dire consequences and others just get on with it, regardless, there is no cure and the one charity who is actively seeking one needs funds to help find it.  As a mother, I support JDRF so that children and adults affected have a chance to be cured. I decided earlier this year to do more to help JDRF, so in the name of insanity I have decided to do a 10,000ft Tandem skydive..

I would be really grateful if you could just donate whatever possible to help me reach my target, anything counts, but also support leading up to this terrifying jump is more than appreciated !

Thanks Justine ;)
