Equalling Mount Everest by climbing Dumyat · 1 May 2015

At times of overseas emergency, the DEC brings together a unique alliance of the UK's aid, corporate, public and broadcasting sectors to rally the nation's compassion, and ensure that funds raised go to DEC agencies best placed to deliver effective and timely relief to people most in need.

Story

I'm aiming to climb the height of Mount Everest (8848m) by climbing local hill Dumyat (418m) 22 times throughout the month of May. In doing so I hope to raise funds to help the people of Nepal in recovering from the recent devastating earthquake.

On Saturday 25 April a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. It severely shook the lives of at least 8m people and left many homeless. Nepal’s major cities, including the capital Kathmandu, have been badly damaged and rural areas near the epicentre have been completely cut off by avalanches.

Already over 5000 people have been confirmed dead and the figure is likely to rise significantly in the coming days. Even those whose homes are still standing are sleeping in the streets because they are terrified by regular aftershocks.

In October 2014 Lynzie and I were incredibly privileged to experience first-hand the generosity, kindness and amazing spirit of the Nepalese people during our journey to Everest Base Camp. We hope that through our challenge we can provide a small help to a country very close to our hearts.

Thank you for supporting us.
