We support disabled young people to transition to a meaningful adult life

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As one of the founders of Our Barn, I see at first hand that people with learning disability or autism have a huge contribution to make to their local community. As founders, we set up our small charity to help disabled people, including our own family members, learn skills and gain confidence in a safe environment and to support them to follow a path of their own choosing. This might be helping them into employment or long-term volunteering, living more independently, or helping out more at home.

This takes time and opportunity to learn in an environment that does not rush or hurry the learning process - which is why we took on our base at Jubilee Lodge, at the back of the superb Osterley Park. We run a gardening club and take great pride in producing vegetables, herbs and flowers to send home with our gardeners.

We've helped over 200 disabled people, and many more family carers, in what seems like a very short seven years. When we moved into Jubilee Lodge, three years ago, (on no budget) we constructed a kind of a greenhouse out of a couple of thousand plastic bottles. Quite a conversation starter, but actually not very effective against the strong winds that blow across the park. The time has come to replace this homemade effort with something that will last a little longer: a wheelchair accessible greenhouse like the one pictured.

Please help us celebrate our eight-year anniversary and give us some of the tools we need to continue what we've started.
