Story
A brain tumour diagnosis is devastating; Brainstrust describes it as 'standing at the edge of a precipice'. My brother-in-law Ali was diagnosed with a tumour in January 2011 after a short period of feeling ill. It was the beginning of roller coaster journey for him,and for my sister and nephew, that they didn't want and couldn't get off. Ali fought the cancer with dignity but sadly he died very suddenly of complications in August 2011. I'm running the Edinburgh half marathon to celebrate Ali's life and to raise money for Brainstrust, which is a UK charity dedicated to improving clincal care for brain tumour sufferers. It is a small charity which is continually growing and providing support and advice to people who are still on the rollercoaster. You can check out what they are doing here: http://www.brainstrust.org.uk/ Brain cancer is poorly funded relative to other cancers. Many brain tumour sufferers don't realise, for example, that they can request a second opinion on their treatment or that they could get advice from a specialist in that specific type of cancer. Brainstrust empowers indivudals and their carers through helping them get the right information and support.
