I decided, in a moment of unbridled madness that I wanted to do something for the FHT as, a few weeks ago, on our 5 a.m. walk my Mum and I found a smelly, dirty,  über-skinny, wet, terrified lurcher with a chain around his neck running loose in a supermarket carpark.  With the help of one of the store's employees, we captured him and removed the chains and put him in a more comfortable collar and lead.  I was going to walk him around the field with our own dogs but he planted his feet and was going nowhere!  So I lured him into my car with bits of sausage and left him there whilst we walked the rest.  When I got back I peeped in through the window and there he was in a nest of blankets, flat on his back with his tongue lolling and legs in the air snoring for all he was worth!

I contacted the Forever Hounds Trust as a reputable and specialist rescue centre to tell them about the hound and I knew that, by law, he needed to be scanned for a microchip so when they were open, I took him straight to the vet.  I was disappointed to find he did have a chip and that the Dog Wardens would be called to kennel him for 7 days whilst they contacted the person named on the chip.  I offered to foster him for that period but legally it wasn't allowed.  The following 7 days were a whirlwind and Trish and Jenny from the trust emailed and phoned me with updates, forms were filled, then, at the end of it all, I was a proud foster mum to a skinny lurcher.  My story has a happy ending for the hound concerned but there are many with FHT that do not have that joy. After a life on the race track, or life hunting prey for pretty tough taskmasters, these poor critters are cast asunder and land up in the care of FHT.  I, personally, have nothing but respect and praise for the charity who offer me every support for my foster lad.  I must confess it is a hard thought knowing that one day, the now noble hound, will be given to a forever home but, as I maintain, he's not going anywhere unless his bony bottom will sit on the finest silk and will be hand fed strips of the best fillet steak!  He's a gorgeous, handsome, gentle soul (unless you're a stuffed pheasant toy with a squeak up your bum!) and loyal.  When I say that to the staff at FHT I can actually hear the collective rolling of eyeballs!
