Story

My latest challenge - a 220 kilometre cycle race (138 mile) starting at Nairobi (Kenya) and riding out into the Rift Valley to Magadi and back to Nairobi over 2 days.   Update - I completed the 2-day event and even achieved a 'podium' postion by finishing 3rd in my category (40+). It was an amazing experience; many Massi tribal dwellers along the route plus baboons and even camels!

Why am I doing this? I guess it's the challenge (madness) and the opportunity to  raise funds to help support the poor children at the Kidzone Orphanage in Nairobi (more info below if required).

Target?  I'm aiming to raise £750 which Barclays will then match £4£ giving a total of £1,500; anything you donate is therefore being doubled.   Apart from the JustGiving admin charge, nothing else is deducted from your donation; all donations will go directly to supporting poor kids in Kenya.  A huge thankyou to those who have already donated; donations from anyone else will be very appreciated; a few more donations and we shall achieve the £750 target :-)

How can you help? I appreciate there are many demands on limited financial resources but please consider sponsoring me; even a fiver goes a long way to supporting these poor kids in Africa.  Click the 'Donate now' button to donate on-line using credit or debit card; alternatively you may email your pledge to me at ray.hince@barclays.com

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Since 2005 I have played an active role with local friends, Barclays colleagues and British Airways representatives in the establishment and running of the Kidzone Orphanage in the Eastleigh area of Nairobi, Kenya.  What started as a simple idea has resulted in an orphanage accommodating 20 orphan girls (aged 4-14) rescued from the appalling slums of Nairobi. These young girls now have permanent living accommodation, clothing, food, medical help plus education in the adjoining school. The orphanage has completely transformed the lives of these poor orphan girls!

The orphanage is totally dependent upon funds raised here in the UK through sponsors and ad-hoc fundraisisng events.  Any donation you make will certainly make a difference!

The fundraising is being directed via the UK based 'Hope for Children' registered charity.

Many thanks,

Ray.
