The Great Wall of China is the next stop for Kevin Chandler from Tewkesbury, and he wants you to join him.
The 51-year-old (52 on the walk) is extending an open invitation to encourage adventurous types to join him on an 80km trek around the wonder of the world.
The trek is not just for fun: Kevin was inspired to take on the challenge to pay tribute to his much loved Great Aunty Blanche Croke. Blanche was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease when Kevin was in his late 20s and died in 1996.
Kevin said: “After my great aunt decided she was unable to drive any more after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s, she gave me her car which was an old Austin 1100. “I decided to Trek China in her memory as a way of thanking her for her generosity all those years ago. “I saw first-hand how Parkinson’s affected my great aunt, so I want to help raise funds and at the same time give hope to the many thousands of people who are living with Parkinson’s.
“I’d like to invite you to join me on Trek China so we can beat Parkinson’s together.” Kevin estimates that his trek will take eight days and will include a day in Beijing. He & the rest of the trekkers will set off on September 26 & return Oct 06
This is not the first time Kevin’s raised money for the cause. He climed Mount Snowdown in 2013 and 2014, raising £1,730.As well as climbing mountains, Kevin is store manager at shop, Tile Giant in Cheltenham.
Tile Giant is Parkinson’s UK’s first national charity partner and staff from its 108 stores have pledeged to raise funds.
