PLEASE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT US AS WE PUSH TO REACH £10,000
Sophie, Sally and Scott here – thank you for visiting our fundraising page! Together we will be climbing Kilimanjaro in October 2023 to raise money for the Renal Department at University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL).
The renal department at UHL has provided excellent care for our father/father-in-law (Peter Draycott) for over 6 years following his diagnosis of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Our Dad has now reached stage 4 CKD and so will soon be requiring increased care in the form of dialysis and hopefully one day, a kidney transplant.
For those who don’t know Pete, he is a loving father of four, committed husband for over 30 years and devoted 3rd generation farmer on our family farm in Leicestershire. Those that do know him, know that he is also so much more than that. Our dad is our hero and words can not express how much we all love him and what he means to us. This is true for so many families that are on this journey together. Since his diagnosis it has become apparent to us how difficult the process is for patients with CKD. With no cure or quick fix for the condition available, most will require dialysis treatment at some point in their life. This is a huge change of lifestyle as patients become reliant on machines to mimic the role of their kidneys which can mean numerous and lengthy visits to hospitals to receive treatment. We have therefore decided to direct our fundraising to our local community and are excited to partner with UHL to improve patient care/experience for patients just like our Dad. We are raising money for 12 new T.Vs for wards 27 and 30 at Glenfield hospital to provide patients with entertainment during what can be very lengthy stays in hospital.
Support us on our journey as we take on the world’s highest free standing mountain. Over a grueling 11 day trek we will be ascending 5895 meters to the peak of Kilimanjaro. With less than half of the oxygen available at the summit compared to sea level, we will be pushed to our physical and mental limits and so we will need your support to keep us going!
All trip costs and associated funds have been paid for personally so ALL the money raised goes directly to the Renal Department at Leicester.
