On the 10th October 2010 the CF team and friends will be taking on the challenge to run a combined 200 miles in the run. This is to raise money for an adult CF Unit at King's .
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetically inherited multisystem disease which primarily affects the lungs and digestive tract. Most patients with CF have recurrent chest infections which damage the lungs and average life expectancy is currently around 39 years. For many patients this means frequent hospital admissions often for up to 2 weeks at a time, as well as a regular home treatment schedule and outpatient visits.
King’s is the regional Specialist Centre for adults with CF in the South East of England. The funds raised from this event will be used towards the development of a dedicated CF Unit. This will provide 10 individual rooms with
en-suite facilities, a treatment room and small diet kitchen.
The hospital has already committed £400,000 to this development, so our challenge now is to match this by raising £400,000 ourselves.
