Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Myself and Emma Hesketh are teaming up to raise money in memory of Isabelle by running a half marathon. Isabelle was a cousin of my boyfriend and we wanted to do something to help. As a patron of Alder Hey I have visited the wards and I know that this is an amazing hospital that we are lucky to have in the city.

This is Isabelle's Story by her dad Rob Mackay.

"Our daughter Isabelle was born at home  on 20th August 2013 with a congenital heart defect. We knew nothing about her problem until she was 4 days old, when she fell ill. She was rushed to Alder Hey and spent 3 weeks on Ward K2 growing big enough for her first operation. She had a BT Shunt operation on 17th September, but had a cardiac arrest shortly after the operation. Several more cardiac arrests followed, but Isabelle fought to stay with us. She was very poorly, but gave us moments of joy when she was awake, looking into our eyes and holding our fingers with her tiny hands. We dared to hope that we might take her home, but she sadly developed a severe respiratory problem, meaning that she could no longer breathe for herself. She fell asleep in her mummy's arms for the last time on 5th November 2013.

We have nothing but respect and admiration for the amazing surgeons, doctors and nurses in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Alder Hey and we hope to raise as much money as we can to assist them to save other sick children."

We are going to try and raise as much as we can by running the Clowne Half Marathon on the 24th of November. We have 16 days to train for a 13.1 mile run.
