Story

Thanks so much for checking out my Just Giving Page!

Most of you know I'm running the London Marathon 2015 on the 26th of April as i haven't stopped posting about it on Facebook!

Not many of you know my reason for running this... I know i am Patron to two wonderful Charities being Tongole Foundation and The Stacey Mowel Appeal. But this run is for my Uncle!

I lost my Uncle David to Motor Neurone Disease in December 2010. He was not just my Uncle but became like my Father. Being the only Father figure i  had. He helped me get my first car! He always helped with me with my lines for auditions and plays (Taking it a little too seriously .. hahaha) and was always telling me off for swearing all the time even though he used to do it him self!

My uncle was such a healthy, normal, funny bloke! Had his own business, managed football teams, he was always on the go! Until one day he kept getting Migraines so visited the doctors and what he found out was not what he would have dreamed about.

Motor Neurone's is a disease in which your nerves in your body shut down. It attacks the nerves in your Spinal Cord and Brain. It affects how you talk, walk, eat, drink, breath.... pretty much everything but your mind.

can not express to you how horrible this illness is... and i would never wish it upon anyone. Some people may suffer with this for years as it attacks the body at a slower rate. But others like My Uncle David get it hard, and the affects literally happen in front of your eyes.

I watched My Uncle change in front of me over the space a year and he tried so hard to fight it. But on the 1st of December 2010 i got a call whilst in Drama School saying that he had asked for us all to be there. He knew that his time was up. On one of the most dangerous winters I've seen. I drove in the thick snow down the country lanes to get to him. I remember it like it was yesterday. He still managed to smile and put his thumbs up every time he saw me and even on that night.

On the 2nd December 2010, my Uncle gave up his fight. We had lost him but i was so relived that he was no longer suffering as he had suffered for a good year. The worse thing about this illness is that he knew what was happening as his brain was still working.. he just couldn't move or do anything and to watch his daily frustration with him self was hard. and no matter how much we tried to help he always wanted to do it by his self.

Even though he was so ill.. for months he was able to come visit us in us shuddy old van. Until he got so bad that my beautiful Mum, David's younger sister gave up everything to move to Horsham to be his full time career. I love my mum so much, always putting others before herself. Most of you who know Betty, know she is a Gem and an absolute legend! He got to a point where he couldn't eat or drink but somehow the cheeky bugger managed to smoke until the day he died!

I promised my uncle a lot of things before he left, i promised him i would take him to Malta to Visit my brother Jack who was living out there at the time. And although is was challenging dragging him across the beach in a wheel chair and having to lift him on to boat rides we managed! I promised him also that i was going to never give up and achieve my dreams! Everything i do in my career is always for him. And i  hope he is looking down form the party in the sky smiling.

There is no cure for MnD!!! And not enough people are aware of this disease.I know you all did your Ice Bucket Challenge but did any of you really know what you were doing it in aid of?  I want to and need to spread awareness for this so that we can try to find a cure. No one should have to go through this, Its like torture not only for the patient but for there family and friends.

I am going to be doing a lot of events over the next few months so keep a look out and myself and my family would be so grateful if you could get involved and be a part of our fundraising. Any sponsors towards my marathon run would be a blessing... If you wanna give £1 or even if ya wanna give £100 lol.

Thank you so much for your time and for reading my story!

Lots of Love

Kirsty
