We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer
Story
For the last 18 months or saw there has been a dark cloud over the WBA Super Flyweight title. That belt, held by the "Toughboy" Kohei Kono (30-8-1,
13) has been part of a power-struggle between the WBA and the JBC. The
WBA ordered Kono to defend against Japanese bad-boy Koki Kameda (33-1,
18), a man who is unlicensed in his homeland due to issues regarding
his gym. The power-struggle saw the WBA show some leniency in allowing
Kono a voluntary defense, last December, though demanded that Kono and
Kameda did fight, despite Kameda's Japanese ban.
Finally it seems that the bout is sorted and will take place on October 16th in Chicago as part of a PBC broadcast on Spike TV.
The
bout, which was set earlier this year before Kono suffered a rib
injury, will be the first ever time two Japanese fighters have fought a
world title fight on American soil and will be one of the most fiercely
contested bouts the division has seen in recent years. Not only do the
two men have the proverbial "unfinished business" but they have also
shown a dislike towards each other with comments made in the media.
Those comments are likely to have riled both men up and will likely show
when the two men do step in the ring together.
