I am fundraising for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Many of you know that my sister has type 1 diabetes (T1D), as do several of my friends. T1D is an autoimmune disease in which
insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas are mistakenly destroyed by the body’s immune system. T1D is believed to be genetic and is different from the more-common type 2 diabetes, in which diet and exercise play a role. T1D can be diagnosed early in life but also in adulthood. Its causes are not fully known, and there is currently no cure. People with T1D are dependent on injected or pumped insulin to survive.

Because of scientific breakthroughs and improvements in medical technology over the last century, individuals with type 1 diabetes can now live long, fulfilling lives. However, T1D is still life-threatening and requires constant daily management. JDRF leads the fight against T1D by funding research, advocating for policies that accelerate access to new therapies, and providing a support network for millions of people around the world impacted by T1D.

I am running the Berlin Marathon on September 29, 2019 for JDRF and am seeking to raise $1500 (or about £1200). I would greatly appreciate any donations toward this very worthy cause!
