Linda/Mam who sadly passed away on the 19th May 2017, struggled with COPD for many years, and during this time it was discovered that she suffered from a rare inherited condition that affects around one in 3,500 in the UK.  Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency. This means that a person doesn't have enough protection within their lungs from the enzymes in the body, leaving the lungs vulnerable to damage, especially when a person catches a cold or an infection. It can also be detrimental to the health of the liver, as well as causing Emphysema (COPD). It can be extremely tough for people to get information and support in relation to this rare disease.
