Story

Well challenge over and we all survived! Big thank-you to everyone who donated with a tidy £180 raised plus £43.50 Gift-Aid.

The motley crew headed for the 10 mile round trip to the back end of Loch Sloy via Glen Kinglas from Butterbridge.

Big Ewen was a little miffed that none of the maps he had produced for the deer stalking were visible anywhere on the Strone Estate...but anyways onwards and upwards.

Nice to see the Estate had large areas fenced off to deer and native tree planting was the order of the day as this really is a beautiful glen. We came across a solitary cats eye in the middle of the track (see the other photos) no idea what that was there for, one for Bridget to explain perhaps? So now a right hand turn and down the track via an aqueduct to cross the Allt a' Chnoic burn and onto the moonscape that is the backend of the Sloy. Site set-up, some food and a few drams later one or two shouts of "Loch Slòigh" war cry of the Clan McFarlane at the small fire site and it was off to bed...no tents on site! Up early - site cleared and back the way we had set out. We took a small diversion down to the bottom of Glen Uaine (Gaelic: Bright Green Glen) to have a look at the cottage at 'Abbysinia' old name for Ethiopia, the cottage first shows up on maps around 1890 and was probably named by a returning Colonialist, It's said to be haunted by an old lady but we never heard her! so off we set again down to the car and home.

Again thanks to everyone who contributed.

Thanks to Alec for the transport and Ewen for the pics.
