For our sins, we have decided to participate in one of the toughest mountain challenges in the UK to raise money for charity.   Set in the beautiful surroundings of the District we will be climbing 24 peaks, all over 2,400 feet, in just 24 hours. In addition to the physical challenge, we will be required to as a team raise £5,000 which will be used to provide essential support to those in need within the maritime community.  During the last year up to 50% of British Armed Forces in Afghanistan have come from the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.  Since the start of the conflict 29 Royal Marines have been killed and many hundreds more have been wounded.  Seafarers UK helps to support wounded veterans and their familes to cope when they return home.

Our team challenge is to walk 24 Peaks, all over 2,400 feet, 32 miles, in just 24 hours including some of the country's most famous mountains such as and Helvellyn, this is one of the most demanding yet rewarding events ever organised as a charity challenge.

I too have never attempted anything like this but I am really excited about the adventure, the challenge and even the hard work!  I am working hard on my fitness and can't wait to get that rucksack strapped on and begin the trek!
