Story

Updates at bottom of page...

So here we are again doing a dumb challenge just to see if we can at the same time as raising money for charity (and lose a little weight!!).  And as usual training has been up and down. The downs have been fun but not all of us enjoyed the ups (someone being sick up a baby hill in the peak district!!!)

If you don't already know Matt Molyneux, Matt Peach, Andy Johnson and James Luton are attempting to cycle from Lands End to John O Groats (LEJOG) starting Saturday 17th July. We will be supported the whole way by our own cheer leader Harry Kipling who'll be on the end of the phone ready for action (hopefully).

We've set ourselves a nice sensible target of completing the 900 miles (providing we don't get lost) in just 8 days.... and to make things worse Peachy is map reading and organising the whole thing. That’s got to be worth a tenner on its own!! This impossible target reads across to our nice sensible target for sponsorship.... if celebrities can do a shuttle version of it for sports relief and raise a million why can't we. All donations will be gratefully received and we'll be thinking of you as we slog our way up the country. We are paying for the whole thing out of our pockets so all donations will go straight to Parkinson’s Disease Society.

Day 1

Lands End to Tiverton

133.7 miles  7hours 37miles Ave 17.5mph

Everyone still on board and intact. Long day and legs are a little sore

Day 2

Tiverton to Hereford

129.86miles 8hours 7mins Ave16mph

Hard work getting going again. Matt Molyneux bike had a problem which we got sorted evently (not easy on a Sunday). Everyone still in good spirts... dreeding the bad day 3.

Day 3

Hereford to Stockton Heath

104.7miles 6hours 2mins Ave 17.3mph

Nice easy day. All went like clockwork. Arrived at 17:00 and had nice meal. Meet support crew half cut!!

Day 4

Stockton Heath to Carlisle

127miles 8hours 11mins Ave 15.5mph

Rained all day, 4 punctures. Horrible wet and cold. Got in at 21:30, takeout pizza and straight to bed.

Day 5

Carlisle to Rosyth (nearly Kinross)

116.8miles 8hours 5mins Ave 14.4mph

.Eventful day. Rained lots again. Big crash!!! Molyneux off at 25mph and Peach used him as a sleeping policeman, but was polite enough to apologise as he came over handlebars. Buckled wheel in Matts back. Slow 20miles until support crew could change wheel. Rescued 10miles short of B&B... not looking fwd to drive SOUTH next day to restart from pick up point.

Day 6

Rosyth to Aviemore

114.2miles 7hours 46mins Ave 14.7mph

A dozen boxes of Ibuprofen and plain sailing. Amazing scenery. Scotland, a beautiful place at last.

Day 7

Aviemore to Helmsdale

96.85miles 6hours 40mins Ave 14.5mph

Worrying amounts of Ibuprofen consumed, swelling reduced for the crash test dummies. Made our way slowly to cakes and coffee at Inverness. 2 cakes later we were flying to lunchstop 35 miles on, provided by comedy duo Pat and Harry at roadside. Last 30 miles made easy by drafting tractor and fabulous scenery. James again "king of mountains", Molyneux "most agressive rider", Andy "relegated to back of peloton for exessive speeding", Peach "Ibuprofen sweats" and "most visable and consistent rider of the day".... 51.5 miles to go to John Ohhhhh Groats!!!!
