Story
Hi Guys,
Just a quick message to let you know why Compton need your help, and why they will ALWAYS have mine.
In 2009 my beloved Grandad, Les Spruce, passed away after being cared for at Compton.
He had supported Compton for a long time, once even won the top prize on the Compton Lottery - £2000!!
In 2008 he needed their help. After suffering with heart attacks, strokes, diabetes and renal failure it was decided that he needed ongoing support at home and Compton were asked what they could do to help. Initally they planned to help just occasionally with respite care so that my Nan could get a break. That never happened.
However, after a long fight to get Grandad through Christmas 2008 and his Diamond Wedding Anniversary on December 27th, he rapidly deteriorated. Enter 2009.
He was transferred to Compton in March 2009 where the staff and volunteers amazed not only Grandad but the whole family. They look after their patients tirelessly. Treating them as individuals, with care, dignity and respect. Unfortunatly, after a brief stay in New Cross, Grandad passed away in his sleep at Compton on 16th April 2009.
He wanted to go there, after initially not wanting to go in, even his morphine confused mind he wanted to go back there, to be confortable, to be cared for.
Compton still provide my family with the opportunity for counselling. The ongoing care they give to their patients and patients relatives amazes me!
This organisation, these people need all the help they can get to continue to offer this level of care. I hope that you will help me help them.
I am hoping to run(ha!) the 5 miles and will be starting training only in May so its likely that the event will be humourous at the very least.
I will be running around West Park in Wolverhampton from 9am on Sunday 20th June. Compton are holding a Fun Day alongside this event with stalls to help raise money on the day as well.
So as well as sponsoring me, why not come along to watch me lumber around the Park!
Thank you all so much in advance,
My target and training updates will follow so watch this space.....
Just a quick update, Barclays will be matching ALL donations £ for £ so keep them rolling in please!!!!
Thanks for the first one Mom :)
Thanks for keeping it going Rachel :)
