Story

Many people have little or no knowledge of modern day slavery or human trafficking, yet it is on the increase and is an issue as a society we all need to be aware of.  Human trafficking is the second largest illegal trade in the world. It is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation.  Victims of human trafficking are subjected to coercion, exploitation, deception, kidnap, false imprisonment and rape. Bawso’s role in supporting victims of human trafficking across Wales is fundamental and provides spaces where victims can feel safe receive specialist support and can begin their recovery.  The Bawso Diogel project has had a significant impact on the lives of the many people they have supported in Wales since 2009.  Alongside supporting people through a crisis situation, Bawso also works long term to provide emotional support through counselling, advocacy, health guidance and education.

Since 2009, Bawso has supported 1291 people and  in 2017  alone we supported 364 under our Modern Slavery/Human Trafficking Project.

“Bawso has changed my life. I now feel great. I feel confident about myself.   I feel safe and as a result of the support, training and courses I am now able to do what I want to do with myself.   It has given me a sense of direction”.

This Year we are Participating in Cardiff Half Marathon which will take place on 7th October 2018, To raise money to support Victims and Survivors of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.
