Story

I'm going to shave my head in support of MPD voice, and my Dad, for whom a cure cannot be found.

Myeloproliferative disorders (MPDs) are a range of disorders which affect blood cell production in a variety of ways. My Dad has an MPD called myelofibrosis which means that his bone marrow is slowly being replaced by scar tissue, so he cannot produce blood cells effectively.. In the vast majority of cases, it is an incurable condition. The only cure for myelofibrosis is a bone marrow transplant, which is very risky and not always successful. It is also extremely difficult to find bone marrow donor matches.

MPD Voice helps fund research towards new treatments for MPDs, and it provides information and emotional support for those who have been diagnosed with an MPD. They hope to one day find a cure. Until then, they need our support to keep looking.

I am shaving my head in hopes of raising money and awareness for this charity. I know it's typically something done for 'cancer' charities, but MPDs are considered a form of cancers, and the treatment my Dad currently takes is chemotherapy, even if it doesn't make his hair fall out in the way people usually think of when they hear that word. I hope that you'll support me, and the good work that MPD Voice does.

(Please make sure to check out Chris's page - we're shaving our heads together, but he's raising money for teenage Cancer Trust instead. It's right over here: http://www.justgiving.com/chris-culling2)

About the charity

MPN Voice leads the way in supporting people with rare blood cancers called Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPNs), with accurate information and emotional support. We're funding research toward better treatments and one day a cure. Most importantly we offer hope to those affected by MPNs.
