Story
I love nice clothes! But not at any cost!
Fast Fashion is the drive to get new clothes into our high street shops faster and faster. The drive to sell more, consume more, waste more. This has disastrous consequences for the people who make our clothes and for the environment.
The Six Items Challenge is a 'fashion fast'. It is designed to challenge fast fashion and raise vital funds to fight for the rights of garment workers.
The idea is simple; I have selected six items of clothing (2 outfits: 2 teeshirts, two pairs of trousers and two warmer tops) from my wardrobe and pledge to wear only these every day for the month of May. They can be washed as often as I wish of course! I can have unlimited access to underwear, accessories and footwear. I am even allowed to have my gym wear in addition to my six. But my main items of clothing trousers, tops, jumpers must remain the same throughout!
Please watch the documentary 'The True Cost' on Waterbear. It explains how Fast Fashion came about and how it works, and its appalling consequences for the people who make our clothes.
Labour Behind the Label have many resources on their website. Please have a look! https://labourbehindthelabel.org
Ethical Consumer Magazine do some great research on consumer goods including clothes. Their findings are really useful in making consumer decisions.
