Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page for Toe in the water, a Help for Heroes charity.

On June 5th Me, Dan and 13 others are going to climb the 3 peaks in 24 hours to help raise money for 2 charity groups, Asthma UK and Toe in the Water. We each have to raise at least £300 so a total of £600 together, so please sponsor us.

The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks, respectively, in England, Wales and Scotland, within 24 hours. The Peaks are:

·         Snowdon, in Wales (1085m)

·         Scafell Pike, in England (978m)

·         Ben Nevis, in Scotland (1344m)

As it is compulsory to allow a minimum of 10 hours travelling time between mountains to succeed in the challenge we actually have to do the three climbs and decents in 14 hours. (OMG what have we done)

We will be walking under two team names of

  •  3 PEAKS TOO MANY and FEELING A WEE BIT PEEKY

  • The tri-service initiative TOE IN THE WATER (TITW) aims to inspire the men and women who have sustained often traumatic injuries, including the loss of limbs, to move beyond their disability and to become re-inspired by life. Competitive sailing is a physically and mentally challenging adventurous sport and provides a unique opportunity for injured men and women to sail and race on equal terms with their able-bodied contemporaries. The participants are selected by the clinicians at Headley Court based on specific clinical needs and are given tangible rehab goals which are monitored prior to, during and post each event. The overarching aim of the project is to provide competitive world class racing to injured servicemen and women as an extension of their rehabilitation at the DMRC Headley Court and thereby:

  • Challenging injured servicemen and women both physically and mentally; taking them beyond their own and others expectations.

  • Re-inspiring injured servicemen and assist them in being able to see beyond their injuries.

Providing a vehicle to assist injured servicemen in finding a meaningful working and living enviroment following profound injury  They get no Government funding, and are reliant entirely on the generosity of the pubic to assist in their activities.
