Story
Following on from their success in the Green Belt Relay Race back in May and winning a trophy for 1st place in the "Corporate" entries.. Loughborough University runners are preparing to hit the track again!!!!!!
Two teams have been entered for the Diamond Relays 2015 on Monday 27th July in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London. This brand new event comprises a 5 x 5k road relay, around one loop of the iconic Park and takes place on the same Monday after the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games Weekend (24-26 July). This is the "last opportunity" to run on the historic Olympic track for the final time before a new surface is laid in preparation for the 2016 outdoor season and the London 2017 IAAF and IPC World Championships.
One of the teams has been sponsored by Andrew Burgess (Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Loughborough University) and the other by the Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering with the teams being led by Dr Adrian Spencer, Head of Dept AAE.
Split into two teams of five, the Loughborough University "Diamond Relays" runners are;
Dr Adrian Spencer, Prof Rachel Thomson, Prof Steven Kenny, Prof Malcolm Cooke, Stephen Lilley, Keith Yendall, James Smith, Emily Ault, Matthew Parker and Rhian Watt!
The challenge for the two teams is not only to compete but also to strive in building on the fundraising success of the Green Belt Relay in aid of the Antony Nolan Trust and in support of their Loughborough University colleague Prof Steve Rothberg who was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2009. After 18 months of treatment, Steve received a life-saving bone marrow transplant after a donor was identified through the Anthony Nolan register.
Your support for the teams and for the cause is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!!
