Story

Welcome to Learning Tree International’s Finance team’s charity page!

Late last year one of the team identified a set of challenges that a health spa was running to achieve two things...firstly to get the employees involved in raising money for charity and, secondly, to help them kick start a fitness regime.

With chocolate cake in one hand, a cuppa in the other the Finance team got talking about the different challenges and the reality of taking part. From what was a “suggestion” it became an all involved, fully participating event! The team is Claire Flory, Debbie Way, Dominique Lott, Gemma Putland, Jo Clark, Rob Harvey, Sue Ashton and Sue Cox.

The challenges are gym based and participants have a three month time limit in which to achieve the tasks, over as many sessions as they want, allowing everyone to take part, whatever their level or ability.

The challenges are:

Swim the Channel – Swimming 24.4 miles 39,000 metres

Cycle the Cities – Cycle 42.4 miles 68 km

Row the Thames – Row 346km

Run a Marathon – Run 26.2 miles or 42 km

Elevate an Elephant – Lift a weight of 6800kg

Most of the team are completing one challenge each,  some of the slightly crazy members are going to enter into two tasks and one is doing four of them several times over....you go Coxy!!

So what’s the charity? As this is a team event we have talked about what matters to us. Last year Claire’s Mum lost the battle against cancer and spent her last few days at St Raphael’s hospice and we would like to donate to them by way of thanks for all the support she and her family received during this difficult period.

A little further information about St Raphael’s from their website...

St Raphael’s Hospice relies on charitable fundraising and depends upon the generosity of the local community to continue providing the high level of care needed. It costs nearly £70,000 a week to keep the Hospice running. Without fundraising initiatives we could not survive, let alone plan for the future.
