We support people affected by cancer to help them cope with their experience

Story

On 28th March 2010 I am  leading a team in a sponsored swim to raise money for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre at Mount Vernon Hospital.  Our aim is to swim the distance of a road marathon between us.  We will set our own targets but will add all the lengths and miles together until we reach 26 miles.

Highgrove Pool have generously agreed to give us a lane of our own free of charge between 11am and 2pm on Sunday 28th March.

The Lynda Jackson Centre is the cancer support centre that do a fantastic work supporting people going through any form of treatment for cancer. The NHS part fund the centre but the rest relies on charitable donations. They supported me amazingly last year in lots of way when I was undergoing chemo and radiotherapy for which I am really grateful.  The centre was a pleasant place to sit while waiting for treatment and there was always someone there to answer all my questions.  This sponsored event is a small way of giving something back.  Please read the LJMC link attached to this site or better still, go straight to www.ljmc.org.

If anyone would like to support me I'd be very grateful.  There are a few ways you can help:

1  Make a donation via this Just Giving website

2  Come along and support us at Highgrove on the day - rattle a few tins, wave a flag or keep us supplied with cake!

3  Join the team. Swim as much or as little as you can and we'll add your lengths to the total.

4  If you like you could help to count lengths at the poolside

With lots of swimmers taking part maybe we'll manage 2 marathons!  (By the way 1 mile is 48 lengths of Highgrove Swimming Pool.)

Last year I had loads of support from friends, family, church and the LJMC all the way through my treatment which made it easy for me.  But if you are someone who wondered what you could do to help, well now is your chance.  It would be great if you could sponsor or support me in whatever way you feel able.  I really want to do whatever I can to help others going through what I went through last year.  The LJMC really do make a huge difference.

You can give in a number of ways:

1  via Just Giving

2  send a cheque to the address on the LJMC link or to me at home (cheques made out to 'Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre')

3  hand me cash or a cheque directly

4  Sponsor the team the old-fashioned way by making a pledge on our sponsor forms

(Don't forget to fill in a Gift Aid declaration if you are a tax payer)
