Story

Why Am I Running?

Earlier this year I was devastated when my lovely life-long friends, The Good family,  lost their little boy Leo to Bacterial Meningitis.

Leo was just two years old, and had had symptoms no more severe than a normal viral infection that day, until, in the space of around just 3 hours, he went downhill rapidly, developed a rash and became very sick indeed.

Despite Leo's Mum and Dad quickly recognising the meningitis rash, and rushing him to hospital, he deteriorated so rapidly that there was nothing that could be done to save him.

As well as his Mum and Dad, Linda and Paul, Leo also left behind a much-loved big brother, Sam (8), doting grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins and many many friends who all miss him terribly.

Who Am I Raising Money For?

Losing a child is possibly the most devastating thing that happen to a family. The Meningitis Research Foundation are actively funding work into early warning signs of meningitis, to help give both parents and doctors a better idea of how they can diagnose meningitis as early as possible.

Linda, Paul and Sam also have their own Just Giving page here, where you can read more about their story .http://tempuri.org/tempuri.html

Why Should You Stick Your Hand in Your Pocket?

Anyone who knows me probably knows that I haven't donned a pair of trainers in anger for about five years, so starting to train for this event was a shock to the system to say the least. Every part of my out of shape body is complaining, but I have a reason to try and raise some money, and that is for Leo and his Family and other families like them.

I have got my running shoes on for Leo, because I felt it was a small something I could do to help ensure that his memory lives on and inspires much needed research into Meningitis. Together, we can work towards a future where no-one will ever have to endure the loss of a son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew, much loved friend and all round wonderful wee man like Leo.

How Deep Should You Dig?

Please, please donate if you possibly can - even if its just a pound. Everything helps. Every little contribution is a step closer. Your donation counts.

However, if just 50 people can see their way to donating a tenner - I will reach my target. Everything on top of that is a bonus. Please be one of my fifty, if you can.

Thanks very much

Lindsay
