I will be cycling from London to Paris on May 12th - 16th to raise fund for Ataxia UK. It is a 5 day event passing through picturesque countryside, through the small villages and medieval market towns of Northern France. With long days in the saddle and some strenuous hill-climbs ending magnificently by the Eiffel Tower.

As many of you know I have a personal interest in Ataxia, as our close friend Henry has suffered with an aggressive form of Friedreich's ataxia since he was 10. It is rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system (approx 14 new cases in the UK per year). The main problems experienced by people with FA are caused because certain nerve cells in the body become damaged and eventually die. The nerves that are mainly affected are those of the spinal cord and those that connect the spinal cord to other parts of the body, such as the arms and legs. Other cells in the body are also affected including the heart and pancreas.

Henry is a real credit to the people who suffer with this disorder, battling it with a challenging exercise and fitness regime along with continual involvement with drug trials and assessments.

He is a fun loving guy with a great family around him - he and everyone with this disorder deserves our support.
