In October 2013 as a family our lives changed forever. Our beautiful niece Niamh left to play with the Angels. From the moment we all set eyes on her we were instantly in love. Her big chubby cheeks and crazy hair were adorable. Nairn and Ruby were the proudest big cousins and their faces instantly shone when they saw her. For almost 8 months we unashamedly used every excuse in the book to pop round to see her and looking back I am so glad we did. She was the apple of her mum Holly's and sister eilidh's eyes and was such a loved and cherished little girl. 

The night of the 17th October 2013 will forever be imprinted in our memories. That is the day she left. She went for a nap and never came back. Devastation doesn't even come close to how we as a family felt and still feel. There is no word strong enough to describe how Holly felt and still feels. I can honestly say that every day we think of her and miss her. There will forever be someone missing from our lives. 

Telling our children that Niamh had gone was the hardest thing we have ever had to do. Their immediate response was why? It was so hard not being able to answer their question because the truth is we don't know why. SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) also known as cot death is the sudden and unexplained death of an apparently well baby. A baby dies every nine days of cot death in Scotland and the majority of families will never know why their healthy baby has died, for no apparent reason. The Scottish Cot Death Trust is the only cot death charity in Scotland trying to find the answers through funding research. To help out in any small way we can Nairn, Ruby and myself along with their cousins Lola, Ellie and Uncle Simon have decided to take part in the annual Dundee Swimarathon on 22nd February (2days before Niamh's 2nd birthday). Swimming as many lengths as we can in 25minutes we will be entering with one of the youngest teams and Ruby, who is 5, is likely to be the youngest participant. We hope to have fun and raise as much money as we possibly can to help fund the much needed research into Cot Death. Whilst we know we can never bring Niamh back we hope we can help to stop such precious life's being cut short and prevent other family's feeling the pain and heartache of such a loss.
