Desire & Destiny - A Concert of semi-staged opera scenes · 22 March 2019

There are 14.7million people – that’s more than one in six – in the UK living with a neurological condition. Here at the country's leading neurological centre, we’re passionate about supporting the hospital to help improve the lives of patients through treatment and research.

Story

Hello, I'm Louisa. I am an opera singer and music teacher. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising money for The National Brain Appeal through my concert production Desire & Destiny on 22nd March 2019,7pm at Hinde Street Methodist Church, Marylebone.  All proceeds from tickets purchased will automatically go to the charity. For tickets please click here: https://www.nationalbrainappeal.org/event/desire-destiny-opera-evening/

To hear me talk a little about myself, my story and the charity then please watch my interview in Tessa Marchington's new Podcast series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaowX4bISnk

If you cannot make the show, then please consider donating here on my JustGiving page. The money goes directly to the charity.

1 in 6 will be affected by a neurological condition during lifetime and the charity works to support The National Hospital by funding research and improving treatment.

This is my story:

I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumour at the beginning of 2012. Although generally non-cancerous, pituitary tumours can be unpredictable and their precise nature usually undetermined unless surgery is eventually called for. I was prescribed medication to control the symptoms, however after a while I could not tolerate some of the side effects and so had to come off it. As a result the tumour grew larger and threatened to press on the optic nerve. I underwent transphenoidal brain surgery in October 2017 at the National Hospital, Queens Square to remove the tumour. Thankfully the operation was a success and I recovered extremely well afterwards. I have not only to thank the expert hands of my incredible surgeon Ms Grieve, but also her amazing team and the staff at the National Hospital. While I was there I observed their dedication and care to all the patients alongside me and it made me determined to give something back.

I have requested that the money goes to where it most needed, not specifically into a pituitary fund. The National Hospital deals with a myriad of conditions; migraines, strokes, MS, Parkinsons, brain tumours, spinal injuries and neurological-muscular conditions to name a few.
