Hi guys!
So, on the 20th October i will climb one of the highest freestanding mountains in the world, Kilimanjaro, in aid of the British Heart Foundation. Challenge of a lifetime, to help support people with heart disease who are going through their challenge of a lifetime.
THE CHALLENGE
Kilimanjaro stands at 5893 metres above sea level. At the top there is only 50% oxygen. I will be doing the Macame route, the most physically demanding of all the routes. It will take 9 days and cover all 3 summits, some of it scrambling on all fours. A number of people do die on the mountain each year. I began training for this chaellnge in February, but I still have a long way to go!
THE CHARITY
British Heart Foundtion works endlessly not only to provide scientific research into heart disease and its treatment, but are also battling with the government in a bid to try and prevent heart disease in the future. One of their many campaigns is to ban junk food advertising until after 9pm, so that young children are not blinded into a lifetime of bad habits, which undoubtedly lead to problems such as heart disease.
Heart disease is the biggest killer in the UK, 179 people every day lose one of the parents to a fatal heart attack. Both my parents have heart problems and are on medication for the rest of their life. I also know 3 people my own age who have suffered a heart attack.
At some point in our lives, we will all rely on the work of the BHF, whether we are aware of it or not. I would like to do my bit to support their work, and I really hope you do too.
Please give what you can, whether that is a little or a lot. If every one of my facebook friends donates £5 I will have hit my target. I'm sure we've all lost a fiver and lost any sleep over it. I aim not only to reach my target, but to smash it, so whatever you can give will be fully appreciated, and deserving of a big slobbery kiss!
Cheers,
Lucinda
