We use sport, exercise and activities to aid the rehabilitation of amputees

Story

My name is Lucas and I am 11 years old.  I live in Lanchester, Co Durham with my mum; Lucy, Dad; Kev and little brother; Jacob.  I love swimming, playing Fortnight with friends, visiting Fox House and going on scouting adventures.  I am also in my last year at All Saints RC Primary School.  In 2011, when I was only 3 I had a terrible accident which tragically resulted in me needing to have my left foot amputated.  Within months I was introduced to my very first prosthetic leg which I affectionately named “leggy" and haven’t looked back.  I don’t let it stop me from doing anything or giving things a try and with 7 years passed I feel confident and happy with being different.   Limb Power has made me really happy that I can now meet other children in the UK who have had similar experiences, and make friends for life.  Please help me to support Limb Power I Can Youth Camps😁

#ICan Youth Camps

On May 29th a group of people with mixed abilities will be climbing over the 02 Arena. LimbPower hope to raise £4000 collectively from this adventure.

LimbPower was launched in 2009 as a charity, with the aim to engage amputees and individuals with limb impairments in physical activity, sport and arts. LimbPower's aim is to improve quality of life and to aid lifelong rehabilitation.

Three years ago LimbPower became the administrators for the NHS Children's Activity Prosthetic Fund, this enabled them to appoint a dedicated Family and Children Officer to help develop the programme for their junior members.

Part of the junior programme has seen LimbPower work together with two other charities Steps and Limbless Association to deliver #ICan Youth Camps. Children with limb loss and limb difference face many barriers in life and struggle with key transitions such as starting school or leaving school and moving into work. #ICan Youth Camps deliver adventure/activity camps for children with limb difference to aid their physical, social and psychological well-being, with a focus on building resilience, confidence, self-esteem and self-efficacy with the objective of reducing isolation through making friends and establishing their own relationships with the healthcare professionals who support them through their lifelong rehabilitation.

LimbPower has recognised the need to offer these camps to families free of charge, so that every young person can be included. During the year LimbPower run many fundraising activities to enable this.
