Story

Friends

Team LEJOG completed the non stop Land's End to John O'Groats challenge at 2pm on14 July. It was a brutal experience that started 3 and a half days earlier at dawn on Sunday 11 July.

Many, many thanks for all your text, email and phone messages of support. Apologies for not being able to take all your calls en route but they were relayed to me from the team bus and had a hugely positive impact on our morale.

Some stats for you on my efforts:

  • 920 miles cycled (includes detours encountered on route)
  • burned 55,000 Calories
  • performed more than half a million pedal strokes
  • wheel revolved over 700,000 times.
  • climbed more than the height of Mount Everest and Ben Nevis combined
  • cried in Cornwall - could not sleep night before cycle started due to fear of failure
  • smiled in Ax Valley - gorgeous riding in sunshine
  • cried in Manchester -  it rained for the whole North West leg
  • laughed in Glasgow - must have done 3 laps finding the A82
  • cried in Sutherland - miserable place with no redeeming features

The attached photo shows a very tired team at John O'Groats at 3pm on 14 Jul. We then had a 16 hour drive back to the London area before returning to work/crashing asleep.  I can not begin to thank enough the following men for their dedication, support, tolerance and incredible humour:

    • Jim Prince
    • Simon Steer
    • Anders George
    • Matthew Ives (not pictured)

When I could not see the end, they brought it closer. When I thought there was no hope, they built me up.

If you have not done so already please sponsor me for the Youth Sport Trust and pass on to others.

    Much love and chafed bits

    Luke Hercule Worthington
