Story
Cancer has recently devastated our family with the passing of my mum on the 22nd December 2017 after a nine month struggle, firstly with the mental side of being told you only have a number of months left to live, secondly the effects of chemotherapy and finally the inability to eat due to the effect of the tumour.
We thought we had had our Cancer statistic with my Father being successfully treated for bowel cancer and myself being successfully treated for skin cancer however we were very wrong.
Having spent a fair amount of time in various sections of the NHS and seeing how overburdened and under resourced it is,despite the best efforts of the staff. It is clear to me that the only way that significant progress will be made to combat the disease is through targeted research that can only be funded by the dedicated charities.
My friend Chris and I completed a “run” Man vs Mountain, in 2015 to raise money for Bloodwise, a leukaemia charity, as sadly Chris’s Father Alan passed away from this form of the disease and we decided that we have recovered sufficiently after 3 years to attempt another run and raise some much needed funds.
Predict. Prevent. Protect. You could call it our mantra. As the only UK charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, we’re committed to freeing the world from the disease altogether. Unlike many cancer charities, we’re focused on preventing, rather than curing. Promoting early diagnosis, screening and lifestyle changes, we believe we can stop the problem before it starts. And being situated at the only breast cancer prevention centre in the UK, we’re right at the front-line in the fight against the disease.
