Story

Thank you for visiting our Just Giving Page -

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones or nerves in the brain and spinal cord. Degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing. MND can affect any adult at any age. The number of people who develop MND each year is about two in every 100,000 people and currently 7 in every 100,000 people are living with MND in the UK.

MND is an Incurable disease, it is a rapidly progressive, fatal disease with half of people with MND dying within 14 months of diagnosis.

Sadly in February 2014 our mother Brenda Willmott lost her courageous battle with MND, so we have seen first hand just how horrific this illness truly is.

The Willmott brothers (Aaron, Ryan & Ash) have put together a large team of friends and family to take on the Windsor Half Marathon on the 28th September 2014. To add to this a number of us are also running the Reigate Half Marathon on the 21st September 2014.

Our hope is to raise as much money as possible and more importantly, raise awareness for the MND Association. This will allow current suffers and carers to receive the vital care and support they need.

People living with MND and their families face many challenges and it is important that they can get access to the right care, in the right place, at the right time - but unfortunately this is rarely the case.

By supporting The Motor Neurone Disease Association, sufferers can receive the vital support, medical treatment and care that they all need. Funds raised will also aid vital research into hopefully one day finding a cure, so that MND will be no more.
