Brians (Bmans) Story:
At the age of 35 my Dad, Brian was first diagnosed with plasmacytoma at the top of his spine. He underwent surgery to have it removed followed by chemotherapy once a month for 16 years. Thankfully during this time his levels remained steady. In a proactive move the Mater Hospital collected and froze his stem cells just in case the cancer returned.
Sadly in 2019 he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma that had spread throughout his upper body. Dad underwent 20 weeks of chemotherapy at the Wesley Hospital in Brisbane, followed by a stem cell transplant where they used his frozen stem cells from 25 years ago.
Dad has been in remission now for nearly 2 years, however his cancer history is never too far deep in our minds as it cannot be easily detected. I will forever admire the strength and determination my dad/best mate had during this time.
I have decided to compete in the Noosa Triathlon in October and fundraise for Myeloma Australia, a charity that my family and I hold so close to our hearts. This triathlon consists of a 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride and a 10km run.
My goal is to raise vital funds to assist and further support other families who are battling myeloma and to raise awareness to the broader community about this rare form of cancer. Every single one of your donations is so appreciated and will make a difference in other peoples valuable lives.
Being able to help other families in this position is an incredible motivator throughout my journey and will be a consistent thought throughout my training.
I cant wait to keep you all updated every stroke, peddle and step of the way!
Thank you so much for all of your support!
