Maisie is 6 years old and has been having swimming lesson for the last 8 months. Maisie has recently been diagnosed with autism. Diagnosis is a very long, hard road on it's own. Even when you know that your child is on the spectrum. We were lucky enough to stumble upon AP CYMRU. They helped us to better understand autism by teaching us via workshops. They also met us either face to face or were available via email to support and offer advice. They have not only supported us as parents but also Maisie and her younger brother. Thanks to AP Cymru they now have access to activities and experiences that they otherwise wouldn't of been able to participate in. They, and our selves have also made friends along the way with other families who understand. AP has greatly improved our whole family's life.
Maisie, herself, decided that she wanted to raise money for AP cymru. She wants to give something back to them. She loves to swim but due to low muscle tone, lack of co ordination, low confidence and sensory problems. Learning to swim was always going to require a lot more grit and determination. So it seems a perfect fundraiser to show herself how far she has come. What better week to do so, than autism awareness week too!
So Maisie is aiming to swim at least 200m (she wants to do 1000m) and raise as much money as she can. To help towards their summer program of activities.
Please support maisie and AP cymru!
