Story

UPDATE - 4/11/2010

Hi everyone,

Here is a quick up date about how the trek is going. Since leaving us Maria has floated in the Dead Sea, hiked through the Edom Mountains, seen a Bedouin village and today she will finish the trek by walking to Petra.

Maria says that she has loved sleeping under the stars and is coping with using a sleeping bag! Also, that there are donkeys and camels all around and she even saw a white camel. It sounds like she is having a really amazing time and is taking lots of photos for us all to see later.

Maria says she has made it through thus far without any blisters and her SPF lipstick is serving her very well! And, as we all probably expected, she has told us that the sand gets EVERYWHERE!

Maria will be returning home on Saturday afternoon so if you still haven't donated now would be a great time to do it!

Lots of love, Gabrielle

Hi everyone,

This October I will be undertaking the Tri Jordan challenge in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. A group of adventurers will be flying into Amman and then travelling to Petra either on foot, by bike or on horseback. I shall be trekking across the Jordanian desert, from Mount Nebo to Petra and covering more than 90km in 5 days.

For those of you who know me well, this is not my typical scene! Some have smiled encouragingly when I have told them, other have laughed out loud but come October 30th this is what I'll be doing! Although, can you imagine me trekking across the desert in 30 degree heat, sleeping in a Bedouin tent with 20 other people each night and not having access to my power shower or hair straighteners??

Anyway, Marie Curie is a brilliant charity which I feel truly passionate about. It provides valuable, free nursing care to the terminally ill who wish to die at home, rather than in a hospital. Every year Marie Curie helps 22,000 people to die in the comfortable and familiar surroundings of their own homes. Marie Curie nurses also provide practical and emotional support for families and carers at what can be an exhausting time. So here are a few examples of exactly what your donation can do:

If you donate £20 you can pay for a Marie Curie Nurse for one hour in a patient's home.

If you donate £160, you can pay for a full shift for a Marie Curie Nurse in a patients home.

And if together we raise £2,400, we will be able to cover the cost of Marie Curie's nationwide nursing service for one hour.

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. I'll keep you all updated about my progress on the trek and hopefully we can reach that target!

Wish me luck!

Love,

Maria
