About the Charity Ride

I have now completed the  ride which started  at Lands End on Friday September 3rd 2010 and arrived at John O Groats on Saturday 11th September having covered a total of c. 951 miles (including map-reading errors !) - in aid of Help for Heroes (the ride is registered with the Charity).

I was inspired to do something by a Channel 4 programme / documentary that covered the return to Uk of two severely injured British service men (one blinded and burnt / one severely disabled through loss of several limbs). We take for granted our comfortable lifestyles and relative lack of danger and are perhaps too well-shielded from the true horrors of the current conflict.

It has been a great experience and throughout the 9 days not a single puncture or technical fault, no injuries and some fantastic sights and scenery were enjoyed!

Training was ok pre-ride (big thanks to my mate Bob Colshie for all his support and advice!) and as each day passed we got fitter and fitter!

 

Huge thanks for those who have already generously supported the event through this web site and for all the messages of support received during the ride - it means a great deal to be able to raise a reasonable sum to help those so less fortunate than ourselves as they get on the road to recovery.

I don't want people to break the bank to support - rather I would prefer that lots of people donate the cost of a pint or a cooked breakfast or a lunchtime meal so that the cumulative effect helps meet the target I have set - or, even better, exceed it!

Thank you for your support! We owe it to all the men and women serving out there - please give what you can!
