Story

Update 5 Aug 2010.

I completed the walk within 10 days and it was a very amazing experience, that i will never forget.

The first 3 days were extremely hard going, non stop rain so the conditions were bad and the fact that i lost one of my pouches on the first day containing my I Touch, headphones etc, really annoying.

I met some lovely people whislt on my walk, Brad and Lance from the USA, Ken and his daughter Hannah, John from York. Also had a great response to my charity walk and all the kind donations from the generous public, even the small bible. I cannot thank you all enough and this kept me going and made me so determined to complete the walk.

Please keep the money coming and thank you all for the support.

Update 12 July 2010.

Just a quick update on the last few weeks.

I got back late yesterday after spending 3 days away with the DofE, Silver Group Exped. Proved to be worthwhile final preparation.

I would now like to mention a big thank you to the following companies for supporting and donating my charity walk:

Vicki Parlour Marketing Manager of Power Traveller

Barry Wainwright of Cotswold Outdoors Store South Cerney

Guy Morton of LEKI_Open Air Cambridge Ltd

Sue of Lowe Apline UK Ltd

Sarah Stevenson and Katie Warren of Devon Pension Services Devon County Council

Ann Porter of Gregory Distribution North Tawton

Update 17 June 2010.

Firstly i would like to thank my Parents Geoff and Christine for their hard work and dedication during the last few weeks. During this period they have given up their own time collecting outside Morrisons and Tescos Crediton in aid of Help for Heroes and my walk.

The response they received from the general public was amazing, overall they collected just under £800 during the two days, which you must agree is staggering, i cant thank the public enough for their generosity.

Well it is not that long to go until i am on the train heading for St Bees, really looking forward to it now and just hope that everything goes to plan and i dont let anyone down.

I have just a couple of pieces of equipment to buy at the end of the month, then a couple of weekends away walking and testing all my equipment and if i need to make any amendments to my packing etc, i will be away next month with the DofE early next month helping out on the Silver Groups Expedtion, so that will be good final preparation.

Many thanks again and please continue to support this fundraising event.

Training and Preparation Update 29 May 2010.

I have just returned from completing the 3 Peaks Challenge, this proved to be excellent training and it was a very enjoyable time. Please take a look at my recent photos of the 3 peaks and my skydiving attempt.

Also in May i took part in Exercise TIGER TREK in Slovakia, this was a 9 day expedition consisting of some challenging walks and spectacular views. The weather was testing at times, the first 2 days was none stop rain which made the terrain hard going but enjoyable.

During the last view months i have had loads of support from family and friends which means a great deal to me.

I have also written to various companies and had some positive feedback, so i would like to thank you all who have supported me and donated items to assist me during my walk.

My Parents will be standing outside Morrisons and Tescos in Crediton Devon over the next few weeks with Help for Heroes collection tins, so please say hello and dig deep if you are in the area.

Please keep supporting me and Help for Heroes.

Coast to Coast Walk_Help for Heroes

I have now decided to attempt to complete a life long ambition, which is the famous A Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk.

The walk starts at St. Bees Head on the Irish Sea and ends at Robins Hoods Bay on the North Sea.

The length of the walk is 190 miles, crossing the Lake District and the Pennies into Swaledale and ending with a traverse of the Cleveland Hills and the North York Moors.

It is my aim to complete the walk in under 12 days on my own with just my bergan and supplies for the duration of the walk.

I will be travelling up to St. Bees Head by train on the 17th July 2010 and starting the walk by 0800hrs on the 18th July 2010.

I will be taking two weeks holiday from my job as a Warrant Officer in the Army, based at Headquarters Land Forces to complete this walk.

I am attempting this event to raise money for Help for Heroes and aim to raise £5000. With your help and support i am sure we can reach that target.

I have also included the link to Help for Heroes web page.

Well that just leaves me to say many thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, please pass on to all your friends and family.

Regards

Mark Stevens
