Story

I am walking Glyndwr Way (135 miles) between 29 May and 6 June 2010 and would like to raise some much needed funds for a good cause whilst doing so.  It's 9 days of walking about 16 miles a day from Knighton to Welshpool via Machynlleth, stopping in B&Bs along the way. I am being supported on the walk by Nigel Banner, Gary Hart and Andy Chapman who are each walking 3 or 4 days with me to keep me company, stop me getting lost and stop me spending too much time in the pub on an evening (fat chance).  It would be great if you could support me by donating some money to Christies.

Thanks for your support

Day 1

An early start was called for today and the boys drove through terrible weather arriving in Knighton about 10.30 am.

The weather was not kind to them. Martin reports that his boots leak and his and Nigels ruck sacks let some water in!!

Bin bags are making their way down tomorrow with Andy. However they arrived at the B&B about four and were tucking

into tea and big slice of cake when I spoke to Martin.

Day 2

Today weather much better. Beautiful views around the Welsh countryside. 32 miles down and 103 to go! Feet sore!

Day 3

Nigel travelled home last night and Andy arrived. They set off again around 9.30am after breakfast. Martin reports that he hasn't had Welsh soda bread yet but has seen three dead moles hung from a fence; a quaint Welsh custom perhaps!!

The weather today has been very sunny again with beautiful views. They arrived at Llanidloes around 4.30pm after 15 miles walking. Martin's main concern when he rang home, was for me to inform him the name of the other CAMRA pub in the town; needless to say they are staying in the other one!

Day 4

Last night proved to be the highlight of the walk so far! The pub, the boys were staying in last night was raided by balaclava clad men, followed by numerous policemen. Martin says they were probably armed raiders; however he can not verify this as he and Andy slept through all the drama!!

The weather has been a little miserable today however the views around one of the lakes was beautiful and they have spotted a few birds of prey. When I spoke to Martin he was again tucking into tea and cakes! I'll have to put him on a strict diet and exercise regime when he gets home!!

Day 5

A beautiful day and the best days walking. Andy is now on his way home and Gary has joined the hike. 17 miles walked today thats 75 in total and over half way!

Day 6

Another beautiful day and another 15 miles conquered! Martin said it had been particularly hot today and unfortunately he lost his hat so the back of his neck has burnt! Another hat is on its way down tomorrow when Nigel rejoins him. Again it was tea and cakes on arrival at the B&B -Martin doesn't normally eat cake, but he tells me he needs the calories/energy!!

Day 7

Very hot and humid today. Had a late start and needed to cover alot of miles today, alot of which was very hard going. Martin has been having trouble with the soles of his boots and this evening his feet are giving him a bit of jip. When he phoned he was just about to go and have a beer on the patio!

Day 8

Nigel is proving to be a great expedition member; not only is he official photographer but also expedition medic and equipment maintenance engineer!! He provided the bandage to support Martins injured foot and restuck the soles into Martins boots which have caused his problems!! Martin reports that after all this tlc his feet held up surprisingly well. 15 miles walked today and tonight the are staying in Meifod before their final day tomorrow.

Day 9

And it's all over!  The last 11 miles completed and amazingly we didn't get wet today.  The thunderclouds circled us but stayed away until we had reached the finishing post in Welshpool.  Some nice views on the final 2 days - lots of walks by rivers and wooded valleys, a real contrast to the first 7 days.  My feet just about held out and now deserve a rest!

Thank you everybody for your support.  I really appreciate all your donations to this worthy cause.
