Story
When I was 6, my grandma spent her final days at Ashgate Hospice after a battle with breast cancer. At that age, I knew very little about hospice care, but the place has always been important to me, as it is to so many people in North Derbyshire.
In 2014 I started working for Ashgate Hospice at weekends, in one of their smaller shops and in 2015 was given the opportunity to open and run our clothes boutique located within the furniture store at Hasland, where I have been since. I love my job and am proud to work for Ashgate Hospice.
What does the hospice do?
"Hospice care provides pain relief and symptom control to people with any life-limiting illness as well as emotional, spiritual and social care and support. The majority of hospice care is delivered to patients in their own home.
Hospice care focuses on comfort and quality of life, rather than cure and is extended to loved ones.
The goal of hospice care is to enable you to have an alert, pain-free life and to live each day as fully as possible. All hospice services are free of charge and funded through fundraising and donations with a 30% contribution from the NHS."
So this is where you guys come in! The Sparkle night walk is Ashgate's biggest fundraising event, and together we can help to raise the £6 million pounds needed annually in order for the hospice to continue its care across the community.
Thank you very much!
