Story

Thanks for visiting my page and please donate as generously as you can.

A brief summary of why i'm raising for NACC, the Crohn & Colitis Association

I was diagnosed with Crohns disease in 2009 having been admitted to hospital after a number of months being unwell. I spent 4 days in isolation but managed to get out in time for Christmas at home with my family.

The first 12 months with the condition wasnt easy or pleasant through being on steroids and their horrid side effects whilst trying a number of different tablets including Asacol, Sulfasalazine and Azathioprine. The toughest aspect was appreciating that people diagnosed with Crohns or Colitis may not achieve their lifetime objectives in education or work.

Since then i have been on the immune suppressant Mercaptapurine which has allowed me to live something near a normal life (albeit still aware of where the nearest loo is!!!).

This has allowed me in 5 years to:

Get married
Be a dad to three great children (ok they aren't so young now!!).
Become a qualified accountant.
Develop and progress in my work career.
Volunteer on the board of AFC R&D to help to establish a supporter run community football club following the demise of Rushden & Diamonds FC.
So, having given up smoking in March 2015 I started running, only short distances until my wife Emma mentioned 'this running wont come to anything'.

My stubborness got the better of me and i decided to run enter the London marathon not thinking i'd really get in. I have now completed 3 x 10k runs and am taking on my first half marathon in November in Norwich.

Please donate generously, i've been so much luckier than most with this condition for which there isnt a cure, the most we can do is manage the symptoms as best we can.
