Story
In June 2016 Leigh, a work colleague and friend, was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Following further tests she was also diagnosed with secondary in the liver, right adrenal gland and now both lungs.
This in itself is a significant challenge for anyone. However during initial treatment of the bowel cancer Leigh was also diagnosed with Type 1
Gaucher’s Disease.
Gaucher’s disease is a very rare blood disorder (only 134 Adults in England are currently being treated for this condition) which is passed down from both parents who would have to both have to be carriers.
How unlucky can one person be to be hit with not one but two life changing diseases!
Most of us can only wonder how they would cope if we were in a similar
situation. Leigh being Leigh though has shown pure grit, determination (and stubbornness :-) ) she has been an inspiration not only fighting against illness on two fronts but also completing the three peaks challenge during this time
Therefore to help raise awareness for this little know disease I have decide to raise money to help towards this great cause by running the London Marathon in April
2018
This is my biggest physical challenge I have ever faced but nothing compared to what Leigh has had to face. If I can take just a small amount of the determination Leigh has shown I know then crossing that finishing line can be achieved.
