Event: VSO - Capco Kilimanjaro Trek, on 16 January 2011
We work through volunteers to bring about lasting change

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I will be hiking up Kilimanjaro on Wednesday 19th January 2011 with 15 other intrepid travellers from Capco. We are hiking up the Rangai route which will take us 7 days and 7 nights:

* 5 and half days up hiking up a total of approx. 4000 metres to the summit at 5,898 metres; and
* 1 and half days down - much quicker and easier! Though, not sure my knees will agree with that statement at the end of the descent... !

I am giving you three options to sponsor me for the VSO:

Option (1): Just for the challenge itself! It will not be easy, the higher you go, the thinner the air! And the summit day will be very hard - getting up at midnight and then hiking through the night so that we are on the summit for sunrise.  After spending some time on the summit, we then hiking down to 3000 metres for the next 10 or so hours.... yeap, it will be a very long day, but worth it!

Option (2): For doing one stage (L'etape in french) of the Tour de France on back on 18th July 2010. It was the toughest mountain stage on the whole Tour de France and I managed to finish it within the 11 hour maximum time limit. Some stats about the ride:
* 180 km or 113 miles long
* 3 massive climbs of 700 metres, 1000 metres and 1500 metres
* the last massive climb is the famous Col de Tourmalet and is 19km or 12 miles long at an average of 7.5%
* over 4000 metres climbing in total

Option (3): For growing a mountaineering beard! By far the easiest option out of the three options from a phyiscal standpoint, but by far the hardest from a mental perspective when you consider all the stick and insults I have been getting!

Please pick your option and then give generously!
