We support adult survivors of child abuse to rebuild their lives
Story
The
trauma of childhood abuse doesn't go away once survivors become adults.
People abused in childhood experience a range of difficulties in their
adult lives, including low self esteem, trust and relationship issues,
depression, eating disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. Despite
the large number of adults facing these struggles, support for adult
survivors in the UK is patchy and underfunded.
The National Association for People Abused in Childhood provides
help and support to adult survivors of sexual, physical and emotional abuse, as well as to
their loved ones and professionals working with survivors. NAPAC wants
all adult survivors of childhood abuse to know that they are not alone,
that it does get better, that it was not their fault and that help is
out there.
In my time volunteering for NAPAC I have seen the incredible impact that
their services have on people's lives, but also how much more of
this vital work NAPAC could do if they had the resources.
On 20th June I will be walking across the Isle of Wight (from
Bembridge Point to the Needles) to raise funds for NAPAC and would be very
grateful to anyone who wishes to donate to this incredibly important charity .
Childhood trauma can have lasting impacts, but the right support can transform lives. We support adult survivors and train professionals, so that survivors receive the services they need. Support Line 0808 801 0331 for adults who suffered any type of abuse in childhood.
